December 9, 2022 (Los Angeles, CA) –Globally beloved singer, songwriter, actress, and activist Sofia Carson and Grammy, Emmy and Honorary Oscar award-winning songwriter Diane Warren released the original song “Applause” from the feature film Tell It Like a Woman.  The song beautifully penned by Warren and passionately performed by Carson is a global anthem of female empowerment and is available now. Tell It Like a Women is a feature film comprised of seven short stories whose common denominator is the representation of female protagonists. Each of these very different women face a particular challenge in their lives with extreme determination and courage that makes them stronger and more self-aware. Some of these inspirational and empowering stories, which take place all over the world, are inspired by true events while others are narrative fiction.

Next, Carson and Warren will perform at the upcoming Peabody and Emmy Award-winning 16th annual CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute, which honors extraordinary people who are changing the world, airing on CNN, Sunday, December 11^th at 8pm ET.

Additionally, they will perform “Applause” at The Wrap Power Women Summit on Wednesday, December 14^th. The event aims to inspire and empower women across the landscape of their professional careers and personal lives.

They first performed the song together at the world premiere of the movie at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy in July 2022 and then performed for the UN General Assembly to raise awareness for Women’s Rights.

Carson, who executive produced and stars in the film, co-wrote the music with acclaimed songwriter Justin Tranter (‘Sorry’ Justin Bieber and ‘Lose You to Love Me’ Selena Gomez), along with Skyler Stonestreet, Daniel Crean and Eren Cannata.

When it came time to create the music for the film, Carson shares, “Before I began this journey, the first person that came to my mind and heart was, the incomparable, Justin Tranter. I was honored to collaborate with them to bring to life the music for this film. Writing the soundtrack for Purple Hearts was one of the most fulfilling and thrilling experiences of my life. I dove into Cassie’s heart and soul in order to write her story through song. And I cannot wait for the world to fall in love with her heart, through her music.”

The music follows the romantic journey of the film’s two lead characters: Cassie (Carson), a struggling singer-songwriter, and Luke (Nicholas Galitzine), a Marine with a troubled past, who decide to marry solely for military benefits–despite their many differences. There are four original songs written and featured in the film: “Come Back Home,” “Blue Side of the Sky,” “Hate the Way” and “I Didn’t Know,” which are Cassie’s songs subconsciously inspired by Luke, who becomes her muse.

ABC Owned Television Stations, the No. 1 trusted market leader in local news, present “Our America: Fifty50” beginning the weekend of JUNE 17 across its 24/7 streaming channels and linear newscasts as part of The Walt Disney Company’s monumental Fifty/50 initiative led by ESPN. The initiative commemorates the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX, the federal civil rights law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in any educational institution that receives federal funding and gives women the equal opportunity to play.

Hosted by singer and actress Sofia Carson, “Our America: Fifty50” features a collection of stories produced by the station group’s Race and Culture Content team, profiling young women and girls associated with the Women Sports Foundation, espnW’s Sports 4 Life Program and other organizations that are working to level the playing field for girls and women through athletics and activism. The 60-minute documentary will air across ABC Owned Television Stations’ linear broadcasts, 24/7 streaming channels, connected TV apps, Localish Network on Hulu and ESPN+ platforms.

Meet the Young Women

Allisa is from New York and is a current Play Rugby USA athlete working hard to grow the sport and league within her community and expose more girls to the opportunity to play the game.

Sophia grew up in Southeast Los Angeles and experienced numerous challenges until she began playing golf at age 6. Now a junior in high school, she credits golf with eliminating social pressures and helping build her character and mental health. Sophia is determined to introduce the game to other girls in her community and hopes to use golf to change lives and break gender stereotypes.  

Melissa is a youth boxer from Chicago who has set her sights on boxing professionally. Chicago Youth Boxing is her refuge and was founded in 2006 to save young people from gang violence and drug activity. As she prepares for her first match, she is hoping to inspire other young girls to box.

Kareyna is a Black and Muslim Snider Hockey player in Philadelphia. She started playing ice hockey when she was 9 years old; and now, at age 18, she is the captain of the most competitive girls hockey team in the region.

Ainsley is a Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) athlete who is a “Global Messenger.” She competes in bocce, volleyball, basketball and tennis, and is a two-time Special Olympics gold medalist. She credits playing sports through SOTX at her school with changing her life and not being judged for her disability.

Mirian is a soccer player who hopes to inspire young girls in San Francisco to learn lifelong skills that helped build her as a leader and athlete.

Veatriz is a 17-year-old deaf wrestler with incredible athletic abilities that earned her the title of Female of the Year at North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton, the first school that has had a wrestling program since the 1980s. She is one of two female students on the team.

Samirah, Aliya and Grace are volleyball-playing cousins from The Tule River Tribe reservation in the Central Valley/Fresno region. They experienced a lack of access to sports and resources, but their story of love for the sport, strong family ties and their lives on and off the reservation will inspire other girls on the reservation.

The documentary is executive produced by Nzinga Blake and Porsha Grant, who were pleased to secure actress and Hollywood Records’ artist Sofia Carson as the host of the special. In a recent interview with “On the Red Carpet Storytellers Spotlight,” Carson stated: “Fifty50 to me means justice. To be fair and to be just means to not judge based on gender, ethnicity or identity but judged based on who we are as human beings.”

March 25, 2022 (Los Angeles, CA) – Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, actress, and activist Sofia Carson shares a portrait of love and all of its complexities with her self-titled debut album, Sofia Carson. The magnetic pop album, available now (link HERE) via Hollywood Records, tells a story about a girl who falls in love, only to be shattered into pieces, but nonetheless, survives.

Carson co-wrote the album with iconic hitmakers Ali Tamposi, Justin Tranter, Oak Felder, Stargate, Rami Yacoub, Johan Carlsson, Andres Torres & Mauricio Rengifo, and more. In sculpting the sonic backdrop to her heart-on-sleeve storytelling, Carson wove in elements of soul and R&B and wildly rhythmic pop, endlessly spotlighting her stunning vocal presence.

“These songs, this story, this album is my heart, which I am sharing with the world, completely,” shared Carson. “So with my heart in my hand, I hope that when you listen to this album, you hear your story in mine.”

In celebration of the record’s arrival, Carson will perform the National Anthem tonight at the Los Angeles Clippers Women’s History Night game. Next, Carson will co-host “The Oscars Red Carpet Show,” the official lead-in to the 94^th Oscars on Sunday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. EDT/3:30 p.m. PDT on ABC.

March 4, 2022 (Los Angeles, CA) – Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, actress, and activist Sofia Carson is set to release her most revealing project yet with her self-titled debut album, Sofia Carson. The deeply personal album, due March 25 and available now for pre-order (link HERE) via Hollywood Records, tells a story about a girl who falls in love, only to be shattered into pieces, but nonetheless, survives. Carson co-wrote the album with iconic hitmakers Ali Tamposi, Justin Tranter, Oak Felder, Stargate, Rami Yacoub, Johan Carlsson, Andres Torres & Mauricio Rengifo, and more.

She paired the album announcement with the stunning album trailer directed by award-winning director and frequent collaborator Uri Schutzer. Carson wrote a visual story to accompany the songs and bring them to life. The trailer takes you track by track thru the album’s love story, illuminating the album theme through the lens of the five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. “These five elements are the essence of life,” said Carson. “And my music is the story of my life.”

SOFIA CARSON PRODIGY SCHOLARSHIP

A four-year scholarship towards a bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music and 43 additional scholarships are available to music students in need

MIAMI (JAN., 2022) — The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation^® is accepting applications for its 2022 scholarships beginning today. This includes their prestigious $200,000 Prodigy Scholarship co-sponsored, this year, by Sofia Carson, Global Ambassador for the Foundation, toward a bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music. In addition, three Gifted Tuition, and 40 Tuition Assistance Scholarships will be awarded to music students admitted to universities of their choice. All scholarships are awarded to exceptionally talented music students, with financial need, to support their educational and musical aspirations. The Foundation is committed to investing in future Latin music creators from around the globe.

The four-year namesake Prodigy Scholarship, this year the Sofia Carson Scholarship, was created seven years ago and has been co-sponsored by Latin stars including Enrique Iglesias (2015), Juan Luis Guerra (2016), Miguel Bosé (2017), Carlos Vives (2018), Emilio and Gloria Estefan (2019), Julio Iglesias (2020) and Juanes (2021). This year’s scholarship will fulfill one exemplary student’s dream of completing a bachelor’s degree, in music at Berklee College of Music, starting in the 2022 fall semester.

The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation remains committed to help support closing the gender gap in the music industry.  In the 2020-21 season, the four most valuable scholarships were awarded to women, which represents 64% ($531,000) of the total scholarship amount awarded. Launching this year’s Prodigy Scholarship in partnership with Sofia Carson provides invaluable economic support and mentoring to an aspiring musician. Both Sofia and the Foundation are hopeful that Sofia’s co-sponsorship will serve as inspiration to young women wishing to pursue a professional career in music.

In 2019, songstress and actor, Sofia Carson, became the Global Ambassador for the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, advocating, promoting, and increasing awareness of the Foundation’s mission and educational programs. As part of her efforts, she has participated in countless events to help raise funds and promote the primary charitable focus of providing scholarships to students interested in Latin music as well as grants to scholars, and organizations, worldwide, to research and preserve diverse Latin music genres, and music education programs.

“As Global Ambassador of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, it has been my privilege to witness, and contribute, towards realizing this transformational and life-changing mission. This scholarship will change the life of an ever-deserving, brilliant, young Latin musician” said Carson. “Together, may we continue to amplify and lift up the powerful Latin voices in every corner of our world!”

This year the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation will distribute a maximum of $900,000 among 44 talented music students between the ages of 17 and 25 with financial constraints, as follows:

• One Sofia Carson Scholarship awarded to one student for up to $200,000 to earn a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, starting in fall 2022
• Three four-year Gifted Tuition Scholarships of up to $100,000 each will be awarded for students to earn a bachelor’s degree in music starting in fall 2022 at the university of their choice.
• Forty Tuition Assistance Scholarships of up to $10,000 each will be awarded to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music. This is a one-time award that will cover tuition costs over one year: the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters.

*Gifted Tuition Scholarships and Tuition Assistance Scholarships are restricted to the payment of tuition.

Each year, the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee carefully evaluates applications from a highly competitive pool of aspiring musicians on a variety of skills; rigorous requirements that are both academic and artistic in nature. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $6.5 million in scholarships, grants, musical instrument donations and educational programming, and events, worldwide.

Starting today, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 the application will go live at: www.latingrammyculturalfoundation.com. As part of the process, students must complete an online application, submit two audition videos, two letters of recommendation, and an acceptance letter from an accredited university along with two completed essays. The materials can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese.  The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. EDT on April 10, 2022.

“I had the immense privilege of writing this song with the extraordinary Justin Tranter, Oak Felder and Caroline Pennell. We wrote, recorded and produced this record in a few hours; it was magical,” said Carson.

She commented, “‘He Loves Me, But…’ is the next chapter of my story. The story of what happens after you’ve fallen into a deceivingly beautiful love that breaks your heart. To anyone who’s ever been told, ‘I love you, but…’, this song is for you.”

The song is a beautiful marriage of R&B and Pop. Throughout the record, a prominent bass line acts as the heartbeat of the song, as Carson’s soulful vocals sing, “He loves me, loves me, loves me, but…” turning heartbreak into a witty celebration of freedom.

The visual story of the music video is told through the element of “Earth”. Directed by Uri Schutzer, the music video delivers a stunning and captivating visual as Carson performs striking choreography before the setting desert sun.

December 18, 2020 – Hollywood Records/Republic Records recording artist Sofia Carson surprised fans today by releasing her newest track “Hold On To Me,” accompanied by a brand new music video. Written by Valerie Broussard and Daniel Robert Burke and produced by Frequency and Aalias, the soulful record is a song of hope. “When you feel like you’ve been falling, hold on to me…” Carson says the song is “a beautiful reminder to hold onto each other with all our hearts, to hold on to hope.” Following her October release of the smash “Guess I’m a Liar,” Carson has continually moved fans around the world by releasing meaningful music and powerful videos all year.

The breathtaking music video for “Hold On To Me” is a beautiful marriage of cinematic visuals, and deeply emotive moments. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Hannah Lux Davis, the bold futuristic video took over billboards in Times Square for its premiere and is available globally on YouTube now. Written and produced by Jason Evigan, Caroline Ailin, Gian Stone, Sam Martin, & Simon Wilcox, “Guess I’m a Liar” is an anthem of heartbreak survival, an empowering story of the triumph of self-love.
